In July 1972, while hundreds of thousands of Americans were fighting against communism in the skies, jungles and forests of Vietnam and neighboring countries, Jane Fonda journeyed to Hanoi to support our enemy’s worldwide propaganda campaign.

Upon her return to the United States and for nearly the last half-century veterans and other patriotic Americans have demanded that the Department of Justice investigate whether Fonda’s words and deeds in Hanoi could be found by a jury to constitute the constitutional and statutory crimes of treason. Their uncoordinated efforts fell on deaf ears, indifferent to Hanoi Jane’s willful gift of propaganda to the communists.

Because there is strength in numbers, if at least 25,000 Americans—veterans and non-veterans alike—sign the petition that appears below its sponsors will present it to the Attorney General of the United States of America.
PETITION
TO
THE HONORABLE ATTORNEY GENERAL
OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

REQUESTING THAT HE CONVENE A GRAND

JURY TO INVESTIGATE WHETHER JANE FONDA

COMMITTED TREASON IN VIETNAM DURING JULY 1972

Whereas, for decades before American involvement in Vietnam the Communists used propaganda as an integral part of their campaign to rule the entire country; and
Whereas, by 1968 a half-million American troops were engaged in Vietnam; and
Whereas, at that time and thereafter the North Vietnamese created and utilized an international pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda campaign designed to drive all anti-Communist military forces out of Vietnam and impose on the entire country a totalitarian Communist regime; and
Whereas, that propaganda campaign was detrimental to American military operations in Vietnam while benefiting the Communists; and

Whereas, on or about July 8, 1972, Jane Fonda arrived in Hanoi, the capitol of North Vietnam, remaining there until her departure on or about July 22, 1972; and
Whereas, while in North Vietnam Jane Fonda engaged in the conduct and made statements as set forth below:
She toured a “War Crimes” museum, textile center, hospital, dikes, populated and countryside areas and a hospital accompanied by Communist officials and members of the international press where by her conduct and words she promoted pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda;
She broadcast live several times through the radio facilities of the North Vietnamese government pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda statements, which were recorded for later broadcast to American Prisoners of War, non-captive American military and civilian personnel and others throughout the world and where by her conduct and words she promoted pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda;
She allowed herself to be interviewed by a French journalist and at another time to appear at a press conference where she made pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda statements and where by her conduct and words she promoted pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda;
She confronted at least seven American Prisoners of War, one of whom was severely injured, haranguing them with pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda statements where by her conduct and words she promoted pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda;
She participated in a meeting with North Vietnamese Premier Nguyen Duy Trinh, where she made pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda statements and where by her conduct and words she promoted pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda.;
She posed—surrounded by North Vietnamese military, Communist officials and members of the international press—on the seat of a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun, looked through the range-finder, feigned sighting on an American aircraft, and where by her conduct and words she promoted pro-Communist, anti-American propaganda; and

Whereas, Article III, Section 3, of the Constitution of the United States of America provides that “Treason against the United States, shall consist . . . in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort”; and

Whereas, Title 18 United States Code, Section 2381 of the laws of the United States provides that “Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States . . . adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States”; and
Whereas, there is no statute of limitations on the crime of treason; and

Whereas, “the grand jury's principal function is to determine whether or not there is probable cause to believe that one or more persons committed a certain Federal offense within the venue of the district court” (U.S. Attorneys’ Manual, 9-11.101);

Now, Therefore, in accordance with the foregoing, those who have electronically signed this Petition respectfully request that the Honorable Attorney General of the United States of America convene a grand jury for the purpose of determining “whether or not there is probable cause to believe that Jane Fonda committed a certain Federal offense [the constitutional and statutory crimes of treason]. . . .”
